In 2021, 1,319 parcels of abandoned state-owned agricultural land in twelve local self-government units were identified, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on its website.

The units of local self-governments in which field inspections were conducted in 2021 are: Pancevo, Pecinci, Ljubovija, Krupanj, Sopot, Barajevo, Veliko Gradiste, Bojnik, Mali Idjos, Srbobran, Backa Topola and Doljevac.

The number of plots that were subject to field inspection is 1,806 or 1,572 hectares, of which 1,319 plots were found to be abandoned. Analyzes have shown that in the city municipalities of the City of Belgrade, Pancevo and Veliko Gradiste, the most abandoned plots have been identified that can to be put into operation agricultural production, while Srbobran has no steamed state agricultural land.

Identification of abandoned state-owned agricultural land is carried out within the project “Strengthening rural competitiveness and productivity in the agribusiness sector” which is implemented by the Agricultural Land Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Accordingly, the Agricultural Land Administration invests its existing resources in identification abandoned agricultural land in state ownership as a great potential for attracting new investments and development of the agricultural sector, primarily in the part dealing with intensive or organic production, but also afforestation, as well as identifying areas for the purpose of establishing agricultural protection zones.
