Our education is NOT formative

A reader says: The article about the continuation of the strike is lucid. For about 5 years, I have been repeating to students my opinion about the real problems of education. The sad thing is that, after ’89, I didn’t hear anyone shouting: I have achieved this, which is reflected in the increase in educational level, now I must be rewarded and that is why I am on strike. With us it’s the other way around, with “I can’t live, I work badly because I’m not paid”. We proposed that we all hold an attestation contest on the job, with external commissions: we have many top international doctors, teachers, researchers, who are not known in Romania. They can objectively discern the “wheat from the tares”, but neither politicians nor working people want that, because the results would be catastrophic.

Consequently, parents should support their children to speak fluent EN and a Nordic language, preferably Danish because it is almost the same as Norwegian. The children should apply from the 10th grade to the mobility programs and do their studies there. Depending on what they want and are able to do after, how they adapt socio-culturally and how the labor market will be, they will return to Romania or not. We are not allowed to keep young people with potential in the country to waste their lives and pay the debts and pensions that incompetent ‘specialists’ in bad governance and strikes live on. The environment in which you train can raise or lower you to the level of the crowd. In our country’s chaos, dominated by “let’s do it that way”, young people get lost, they have no way and from whom to assimilate knowledge that they can then process in order to assert themselves. Our education is NOT formative. Teachers only deliver information, and that 30-40 years old, learned from their predecessors. The story of “suitability to the conquests of current technique, technology, culture” is an embarrassing lie. The few exceptions, passionate teachers who are aware of the news in the field they serve, are ostracized: “Leave it, sir, we know how things work, I’ve seen people like you before.” Some “immovable” director thinks that his seat is threatened: “What, you want to go out like a head louse?”
