Otis and its solutions for non-residential elevators, Live Talk with the expert

23/03/2023 – The definition of non-residential it embraces multiple types of buildings and destinations, places open to the public such as shopping malls, hotels and offices, and places that offer a public service such as hospitals or museums.

It is unthinkable to imagine these spaces without technological systems such as elevators. But how do you design an elevator for a non-residential building? What technical-functional characteristics must it have to ensure comfortable use by the public but also by service workers?

Yes this has been talked about during the second Live Talksorganized in collaboration with OTISand which was held yesterday in live streaming.

Guest of the episode was once again Fabrizio Vimercati – Operational Marketing & Promotion per Otis Italia.

There were many parallels with the first episode, dedicated instead to residential elevator design.

We started from the legislation on the removal of architectural barriers both for new non-residential buildings and for existing ones, and then moved on to practical examples with the Design Guidean application created by Otis, completely free and also available in a mobile version, which supports designers in the phase of choosing and sizing the lift.

Several cases were examined: offices, hospitals, hotels.

In the non-residential sector there is the possibility of certifying a building according to certain standards such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) which we can state are currently the two most authoritative certifications in the world for eco-friendly buildings.

To receive certification, projects must earn credits which in turn earn points. Materials and technologies contribute to the creation of the rating system.

With Fabrizio Vimercati we then studied in depth all those installations that require specific technical specificationslike them bed lifter for hospitals, or the design of fire lifts.
