Oradea City Hall and Bihor County Council will open their own airline

The announcement of the establishment of the new company was made on Thursday by the mayor Florin Birta and the president of the CJ Ilie Bolojan, and a collaboration protocol will be signed and will have to be approved by the local and county councilors.

“There are important areas in which the collaboration between Oradea City Hall and the County Council has its say, because it leads to the development of the city and the county at an accelerated pace. In this case, having an airport that connects us with the country’s capital much better and with European hubs is exactly what it means, a better development and conditions for investors, for tourists and for the local community. “, specified the mayor of Oradea Florin Birta.

The protocol provides for the establishment of its own airline owned by Bihor County and Oradea Municipality, possibly by other entities directly subordinated to the two local public authorities. Thus, the types of companies provided by the Romanian legislation will be analyzed in order to identify the optimal collaboration solution: the joint stock company, the limited liability company, etc.

“Why is it good to make this local airline? We are an average city in Romania that has in the area of influence of the airport about one million inhabitants that it can rely on and that it must serve. We are a city and a county where the operation of flights is at the limit of profitability and depends on the commercial policies of companies and the global context, and remaining totally at the risk of the aeronautical market is not a solution for the development of the city. We have decided that it is appropriate, following models of connecting other small cities in Europe to air hubs, to set up this company. We will purchase or rent two aircraft with up to 75 seats each with which we will operate flights to various destinations. We are looking for a decrease in prices on the respective routes, as the current ones are not small at all “, said the president of the Bihor County Council, Ilie Bolojan.

The authorities want to operate with two aircraft some flights Oradea – Bucharest, at least 3 flights a day on weekdays and at least 2 flights a day on non-working days, which would become operational in March 2022, but also some flights connecting Oradea by one or two international airports in Western Europe, which would become operational by October 2022 at the latest.

The activity of the local airline would be financed from public subscriptions, sponsorships and donations from local companies that will want to support this project, say the representatives of the mayor’s office.
