Oppositional coalition “Together” won the elections in the Czech Republic

The opposition coalition Together, consisting of three liberal parties and movements, won the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, beating the ANO movement, led by Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis, by 0.6 percent of the vote. This is evidenced by data from the Czech Statistical Office.

After counting 99.97 percent of the ballots, it turned out that “Together” won the support of 27.78 percent of voters who took part in the voting, and ANO – 27.13 percent. The difference was all only about 35 thousand votes.

The coalition of the Pirate Party and the Elders and the Independents movement, with a score of 15.6 percent, and the Freedom and Direct Democracy Party, with 9.56 percent support, also entered parliament. The rest of the political forces were unable to overcome the 5 percent threshold.

Babis has already admitted the defeat of the centrist political movement he leads. “The party coalition” Together “won by the number of votes. I congratulate her on this,” the Prime Minister said.

The leaders of the two liberal coalitions – Together and the Pirate Party with the Elders and the Independents movement – announced their intention to begin negotiations within the next 24 hours on joining forces to create a new government. Together, they claim 108 of the 200 seats in the lower house of parliament.

According to local media, the elections ended in failure for the country’s left forces; neither the Czech Social Democratic Party, nor the Communist Party of the Czech Republic and Moravia, which were previously represented in it, could get into parliament.
