Opposition in São Tomé warns of “trend of installation of dictatorial government” – Africa

The Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Príncipe/Social Democratic Party (MLSTP/PSD, in opposition) warned today, following the attack on the barracks, of the “trend of installing a dictatorial government in the archipelago”.

“Given the evidence of the acts of November 25th and subsequent actions, the MLSTP/PSD warns the population and the international community about the trend towards the installation of a dictatorial government with the objective of muzzling democracy and intimidating opponents through the installation of the terror, fear and persecution”, said deputy and member of the MLSTP-PSD political commission, Raul Cardoso.

In a statement read this afternoon to journalists, at the end of the board meeting, the spokesman for the political commission reiterated that the MLSTP/PSD “condemns all acts of violence against citizens and State institutions” and adds that it condemns “vehemently the barbaric way in which visibly bound and neutralized citizens were violently tortured and executed in the headquarters precincts”.
