Online School of Utility Economics

The mayor of Bârlad municipality, Dumitru Boroş (PNL), asked in an address to the directors of the educational units in the locality to find solutions to reduce the costs of invoices, indicating as possible scenarios including the conduct of courses in the online and hybrid system or the reduction of the conduct times of hours.

The document was made public by deputy Eduard Popica (PSD), who in a post on his Facebook page asked the mayor not to “bury” the Bârladea school and to make education a priority field.

“The mayor of Bârlad, the leader of a municipality with solid traditions in the field of culture and education, gives a coup d’état to the Bârlad school by proposing to the management of the educational units to “turn off the light” and switch the education process to “online”, as they have ran out of pennies and will not have anything to settle utility bills, given that both the prime minister and the Minister of Energy are colleagues of his ruling party. We have all realized the size of the losses suffered by the school and education as a result of the “online school” experiment in the pandemic. The local authorities should be the first to shoulder the task of restoring normality, recovering the losses suffered by the school. The field of education should be your priority, Mr. Mayor! On behalf of the parents of the children from Bârlad, I imperatively ask you not to bury the Bârlad school, which for centuries has given the country a whole host of personalities in all fields of activity”, Eduard Popica said.

In the address sent by Bârlad City Hall to the educational units in the locality, the principals are asked to solve this problem “quickly”.

“Educational units where the basic funding does not cover operating expenses have taken decisions regarding the effective implementation of the education system, optimizing and streamlining expenses so that the indicators of the educational process are not affected, such as: reducing the duration of classes, conducting classes in two shifts to heat and light only certain classrooms, conducting classes in an online or mixed system. As a result, please let us know the scenarios you have thought of that would result in the quantitative and value savings you estimate to achieve compared to the same period of the previous year. (…) We ask you to treat this problem with speed and seriousness, because soon the next invoices will arrive and we have to show good management of the crisis we are in”, says the document received by the management of the schools and kindergartens in Bârlad .
