A 68-year-old man has died and 24 people have needed medical attention for poisoning due to a fire at the Hospital Clínico de Madrid that occurred in the early hours of this Sunday, according to hospital sources confirmed to elDiario.es.
The fire broke out around 01:00 a.m. in a room on the fifth floor of the medical center for reasons that are still “being investigated,” according to these sources, which caused the death of the patient who was inside, as well as the evacuation of 17 patients to another area of the hospital without any incidents and previously notifying their families.
The 24 people who have had to receive medical assistance are, above all, police officers, hospital security members and nursing staff, although due to their favorable evolution, all have been discharged.
The fire did not affect any facility in the medical center and was extinguished by firefighters and first responders. “Thanks to the proper functioning of the hospital’s fire protocol and the quick action of the team,” they add.
