He noted that an increase in the incidence is observed in all age groups, except for children. The strongest is in the socially active group, among adolescents and among adults under the age of 49.

Patients can indicate the source of infection in 46% of cases. At the same time, he noted that the number of new cases in medical institutions is decreasing, but social care centers are also affected by the virus.

“Not typical for the past weeks, we see that there has been an increase in the number of new cases associated with attending private parties where there were contacts and the infection spread. Last week, at least 275 of them were registered. This is significantly more than we have seen before, “the epidemiologist admitted, noting that this means that people ignored the prohibitions and went to visit each other on the Christmas weekend.

“Failure to respect the distancing benefits the virus. The risk of infection depends not only on how close we are to the possible source of infection, but how much time we spent with it. Indoor risks are higher. You need to be careful in public places where there are many people, where the air is common. And you need to spend as little time as possible in such places, ”Perevoshchikov recommends.

We remind you that on November 9, an emergency regime began to operate in Latvia and various restrictions were introduced. Later, it was decided to extend the emergency until February 7. Along with this, a decision was made to introduce a curfew – from ten in the evening to five in the morning. Earlier, on December 17, additional restrictions on trade and services were introduced.

Latvia began vaccination of the first risk groups (and these are doctors and other specialists in contact with patients with coronavirus) together with the whole of Europe on December 27, having received 9750 doses of BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine in the first delivery, and in the second, last week, another 13 650 doses … On January 11, another Pfizer shipment took place in a slightly smaller amount, 6,825 doses. Moderna vaccine will be delivered to Latvia every two weeks, its first delivery is expected next week – and will amount to 1000 doses.
