Officials from the Foreign Ministry will be punished for issuing cash bonuses to themselves


The Bureau for Preventing and Combating Corruption (CPAC) has administratively fined five high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for issuing cash bonuses to themselves, according to information on the Bureau’s website.

July 1 last year at a meeting of the Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andris Pelšs participated in the decision-making on the issuance of cash bonuses to officials and employees of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic and consular missions of Latvia, including himself.

Pelshs was fined 280 euros.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Secretary of State Andjes Vilyumsonsdirector of the ministry department Ivars PundursDeputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Astra Kurme and Deputy Secretary of State – Administrative Director of the Ministry Atis Lotzwho have decided to give themselves cash bonuses.

Mr. Lots also issued an order “On the issuance of cash bonuses to officials and employees of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, including himself.

Vilumsson was fined €250, Pundurs €200, Kurme €220 and Lots €550.

The BPBC decision came into force in April.
