Official: VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45

Following the leak earlier this week, Volkswagen unveiled the Clubsport 45 version of the new Golf GTI a few minutes ago. It celebrates the 45th anniversary of the model’s release – it was launched in the summer of 1976 – and its pre-sale will start in selected European countries on March 1, with its price in Germany starting at € 47,790.

Mechanically there are no differences from the Golf GTI Clubsport, so under the hood the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 has the 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine, producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which has shorter transmission ratios than the simple version of the Golf GTI.

According to the German company, the extensive personalization program makes the Clubsport 45 a collectible item, even as a new one. In appearance, the car has a black roof and black spoiler, while with the Race package – which is available as standard and exclusively on the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 – the equipment includes 19-inch Scottsdale alloy wheels in black glossy finish, with a subtle red detail.

The Race package also includes a new exhaust, while removing the final speed limiter. There are LED matrix lights and inside the model, there are the classic decorative GTI elements, which are found on the backs of the front seats, while the number “45” adds character to the sports steering wheel.
