After 14 years of the third generation LX on the market, Lexus today introduced its new, fourth generation. The sister model of the new Toyota Land Cruiser retains its body-on-frame structure and is based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform.
Several modifications have been made to make the new frame lighter, while also being more rigid, with the total weight reduced by 200 kg. In addition, the center of gravity has been moved lower to the ground and closer to the passenger compartment to achieve a lower center of gravity, while for the same reason Toyota is installing an aluminum roof.
Its length reaches 4,965 mm, its width is 1,990 mm. and the height is 1,945 mm, while the wheelbase is 2,850 mm. and the distance from the ground to 230 mm. The approach angle is 32 degrees and the escape angle is 24 degrees. Mechanically, the new LX leaves behind the 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine and in its place we find a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine.
It delivers 415 horsepower with 650 Nm of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, with the drive being sent to all wheels via three differentials. It does the 0-100 km / h in 6.7 seconds. Lexus does not mention fuel consumption, but points out that thanks to the new platform, the lighter weight and the more efficient engine, the new LX has reduced CO2 emissions by 10%, compared to the old one.
Inside we find a digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch display for the infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7 ″ display for the air conditioning system, while there is a head-up display, electrically adjustable steering wheel, air ionizer, wireless charger smartphones, 360-degree cameras and fingerprint authentication system.
In addition, the new NX is equipped with the Multi-Terrain Monitor system, which gives the driver a true picture of the road surface below, around the vehicle and the position of the wheels. The Multi-Terrain Select system automatically judges the quality of the driving surface and adopts the most suitable driving program.
The model can be either five-seater, seven-seater or four-seater with two independent rear seats that can be retracted up to 48 degrees for greater comfort.
In terms of safety and driver assistance systems, it has the Lexus Safety System + 2.5 suite which, among other things, has the Pre-Collision System with Frontal Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Intelligent High Beams, Emergency Steering Assist and Road Sign Assist.
