Oddworld: Soulstorm – Collectors in Day One Edition

Many older players fondly remember the games in the Oddworld series set on a strange alien planet inhabited by even stranger species. He is most absorbed by the humble, long-sighted Mudokons, who are exploited by the evil Glukkons as slave labor, and there are also the intellectually limited Sligi, the bloodthirsty Scrabs, and more. All in all, Picker is a comment from our society, but I don’t think many people even notice it.

There are several titles in Oddworld, but it’s true that we haven’t seen any that are completely original in a long time. Released years ago, New ‘n’ Tasty was a direct remake of the debut, Abe’s Oddysee, while Soulstorm relies roughly on the double, Exoddus, which first came out in the late 1990s. Anyone who has played it will undoubtedly experience similar situations, but they will certainly not play the same game again. The slave savior Abe we control is more swollen this time. In the side view, in which the camera is constantly film-adapting to the gameplay, we secretly and flatly make our way past the guards, who mow us down with a single burst, snipers, dogs and traps. Not once do we take up arms ourselves, and we often have other Mudokons with us who are just as fearless and would rather die than resist the invaders. On the other hand, the areas where we just hide and avoid are complemented by many where we take the initiative. Namely, Abe has psychic powers with which he can take control of enemies from a distance and force them to shoot comrades, commit suicide, turn off machinery and the like.

The game is basically good, but it’s a shame that in many places it insists on absolute accuracy, which doesn’t really allow it, as the control is loose and there are still a lot of bugs despite the corrections. Well, perseverance goes a long way, and anyone who counts the original games, which also have a decent side, can do quite well.
