Here are a few unusual yet useful smartphone cameras.
CAT S62 Pro and thermal imaging camera
Selected CAT & hairsp; – & hairsp; smartphones, including the S62 Pro model – are armed with thermal imaging cameras.
This particular phone can detect temperatures ranging from -20 to 400 degrees Celsius with an accuracy of 0.1 degrees. The software creates detailed heat maps with the ability to detect the temperature of any object in the frame.
Thermal imaging cameras & hairsp; – & hairsp; although practical & hairsp; – & hairsp; are also very expensive (the price of the module attached to the phone is 1500-2000 PLN). For this reason, it is not a particularly popular solution. It’s a pity.
OnePlus 8 Pro and a camera with a photochromatic filter
A special color filter was applied to the additional OnePlus 8 Pro camera, thanks to which the matrix recorded infrared light. This & hairsp; – & hairsp; although ubiquitous & hairsp; – & hairsp; is not visible to the human eye.
In theory, this function was supposed to allow you to take artistic photos like this:
OnePlus 8 Pro, however, quickly became the hero of a large scandal. It turned out that the unique properties of the camera with a photochromatic filter allowed it to overexpose some materials, including clothes.
Due to the controversial use of the camera, OnePlus disabled it in some countries, and a similar solution has not reached any other phone from the brand.
Hammer Blade 5G i noktowizor
The creators of the Polish phone Hammer Blade 5G have found another use for infrared. Thanks to the use of light invisible to the human eye, it was possible to create a camera that works even in complete darkness.
It is true that the camera records only a black and white image and works only when taking pictures, but the possibility of penetrating even the deepest darkness cannot be overestimated.
This solution is useful and potentially cheap to implement, so it is possible that more companies will be interested in it in the future.
Xiaomi Mi 11 and a telemakro lens
Macro lenses found in dozens of smartphones are usually useless; they only act as a plug for promotional materials.
Xiaomi took a slightly different path. Some & hairsp; – & hairsp; smartphones, e.g. Mi 11 or Redmi Note 10 Pro – they have the so-called telemakro lenses. These not only sharpen at a short distance (3-10 cm), but also generate 2x optical zoom and even 4x digital. This allows you to get a lot of magnification.
This idea was warmly received, so fortunately Xiaomi does not give up on it. Telemakro lenses regularly find their way to the next smartphones of this manufacturer.
OPPO Find X3 Pro i microlens
OPPO has gone a step further than Xiaomi. The camera of the Find X3 Pro model is surrounded by a glowing ring and is able to focus from extremely close range, so it works like a microscope. The manufacturer boasts that the objects displayed on the screen are as much as 60 times larger than in reality.
This idea is slowly picked up by other producers. A similar camera went to the realme GT 2 Pro.
So as you can see, you can still come up with something new in the world of mobile photography. I wonder what the producers will surprise us in the coming months.
