This 2021 year looks like everyone wants to sow corn. It is expected that corn will dominate in Serbia, on an area of one million hectares. The reason for that is obvious, profitability, and this year the price increase on the world market of as much as 40% is especially tempting.
While other field crops are also experiencing a rise in market prices, corn seeds are in huge demand by farmers. It is unremembered that at the beginning of February you can no longer find all the hybrids of corn, so if you are “late” with the purchase, you will have fewer options to choose from.
What is noticeable is the great popularity of early hybrids, especially from the FAO groups 300 and 400. Also, 500 and 600 maturing groups are still in demand, since they are the most productive and most profitable.
How to choose the best corn hybrid for your plot?
Production regions in Serbia are quite different. It is grown at altitudes of 50 to 800 meters, on soil of different quality – from degraded chernozem to grove, whose acidity ranges from pH 8 to pH 5.
All this clearly indicates that one maize hybrid cannot be used for all regions, because hybrids need to be adapted to different production conditions in order to get maximum yields. In fact, the yield of corn in your field depends on these 3 factors:
- soils (texture, acidity, organic matter ()
- weather conditions
- agricultural techniques (tillage, irrigation, fertilization ().
It is crucial to assess the yield potential of the field based on these 3 factors and accordingly choose the appropriate hybrid and the appropriate sowing density. The generally accepted rule is that high-potential land requires high densities, medium-potential land of medium density, while on low-potential land, the yield density will be low.
AS hybrids adapted to your fields
AS hibridi maize hybrids were checked and tested. Namely, in as many as 10 countries in the region, experiments are performed in different weather and soil conditions, in order to obtain accurate and precise data for each AS hybrid, ie relevant recommendations for the best sowing density.
Farmers are not alone in choosing the best hybrid and optimal density. It is available to them Agrosava expert service, ie, a team of experienced engineers who are in the field and who help farmers to properly choose a corn hybrid for their region and their plot.
Also, seed quality, as one of the main conditions for good yield, is something that makes AS hybrids special, because seed quality standards are much higher than legally prescribed. That is, internal standards are 93% germination and 90% seed energy.
What producers can expect this season are 13 different AS hybrids, some of which are suitable for literally all regions, and others require specific conditions. Dr. Nenad Vasić, the main selector of AS hybrids, especially recommends several hybrids, which stand out with their potential and yield stability. See which hybrids are in the attachment below.
