Adm. director of NIRAS Carsten Toft Boesen has taken over as president of ATV – the Academy of Technical Sciences.
He replaces DTU rector Anders Bjarklev in the post.
Carsten Toft Boesen is the new president of ATV – The Academy of Technical Sciences. He has been elected for a three-year term and replaces Anders Bjarklev, who served the previous three-year term that the presidency lasts.
Carsten Toft Boesen is CEO of NIRAS and chairman of the board of Roskilde University. He has sat on ATV’s presidium (board) for the past year as incoming president and from 2020 as vice president.
“ATV has reasonable visibility, but we don’t have that much influence. To achieve that, we need to sharpen our attitudes a little more. It will perhaps cause challenges on the internal lines, because naturally there will be members who have a different attitude. But handling the dilemmas that will arise is also the way to more influence. It is essential that we take an interest in and have attitudes towards the societal challenges that are relevant right now, and that what we come up with can make a difference,” says Carsten Toft Boesen and continues:
“We must work to a greater extent with scenarios, dilemmas and alternatives, so that we do not end up in a corner where we only have one solution to all the problems, but where we instead draw up some scenarios. And we must involve expertise in relation to how the technological transition affects people and voters. There we need help from other disciplines that do not have engineering and natural sciences as a focal point.”
Seasoned director and equipped for change management
Carsten Toft Boesen has just turned 64 and has been managing director of NIRAS since 2000. He took over as chairman of the board of RUC in 2020.
He is the former chairman of the Association of Consulting Engineers (FRI), has a Master’s degree. in geology from the University of Copenhagen and has an Executive MBA in Change Implementation from Henley Business School, University of Reading.
Carsten Toft Boesen was admitted as an academy member in 1999 and has sat on ATV’s board since 2020. It is therefore a president with in-depth knowledge of the academy who stands at the head of ATV.
