89% of all Danish IT employees want to work from home at least once a week.
Simply because it increases their productivity and job satisfaction.
A new analysis among 2,500 IT professionals, conducted by Computerworld IT Job Bank, shows that nine out of ten IT employees will work from home in the future. 50% say that homework has created greater job satisfaction, while 56% say that they are more productive from home.
“The effect of the corona is perhaps one of the biggest changes that has hit the industry in recent years. Many companies simply have to rethink their entire workday and the way they lead their teams. Otherwise, their employees will disappear over to the competitor, ”says Annette Otto, chairman of IT industries competence committee and SVP People, Brand & Sustainability in Atea.
Almost two out of three (62%) also say that the way they worked before the corona was old-fashioned.
The IT staff would also like to be in the office
However, this does not mean that you have to completely uncritically just replace the physical offices with clean home workplaces. There are still 11% who do not want to work from home, just as more than every third person says (39%) that they work more than usual when they work from home.
At the same time, one can see that especially singles and young people want to join the community in the office during the week.
“There is still great value in meeting at the coffee machine and just getting some of the small everyday things that you otherwise do not get over a Teams call. And then we are important to each other in relation to the social, culture and not least the innovative power of the company. So it’s about building a good hybrid company, where you can function both physically and online together, ”says Annette Otto.
Atea has decided that in future they will be a physical company with a virtual mindset. In Atea’s opinion, collaboration, innovation and the community work best when you are together physically some of the time, but at the same time give everyone the opportunity for flexibility, where you work from home for a few days or come in to fit in with family life.
For them, the balance must be found in the individual departments, where the starting point must be the task, the collaboration and the relationships as well as the individual’s wishes. It is not an easy task to give the middle managers, which is why it is also important that they are dressed and trained in this new task and leadership role.
Make a plan for the hybrid workplace
Although so many employees have a clear desire to work both from home and in the office, 68% of companies, unlike Atea, do not yet have a plan for how to make the hybrid workplace work.
The IT industry’s CIO Transformation Board therefore has compiled a list of the three main strategic areas, one should get a handle on as a business.
- Establish the framework for the hybrid workplace
- Get a handle on the hybrid everyday life
- Strengthen the hybrid culture
“There is probably not one plan that suits everyone. So it is important that the individual company agrees on how employees and not least the managers should act in a hybrid everyday life, where teams are spread out geographically, and where the employees check in and out differently, ”concludes Annette Otto.

The report is based on a questionnaire survey with 2,500 participants from Computerworld IT job banks and Computerworld’s databases, and the answers were obtained in June, July and August 2021. The IT professionals surveyed are aged 18-65, and both employees in
