NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f/2,8 has a maximum length of 75 mm and a diameter of 66 mm. The diameter of the filter thread is 46 mm. The weight is only 260 g and yet the lens has a seal against the ingress of dust and water. There is only one ring on the lens, which in addition to the focusing function can function as an aperture ring or for exposure compensation.
This is a macro lens with a maximum aspect ratio of 1: 1. Sharpening is performed by the front member, which slides out of the tube. The focus distance and magnification ratio are marked on the tube. The lens has a focus distance limit switch of 16 cm to ∞ and 16 cm to 30 cm and an autofocus and manual focus switch.
The optical structure consists of 10 members in seven groups, contains one low scattering (ED) member and one aspherical member (AS). The screen is nine-lamella, round, electronically controlled. The highest aperture is f 2.8 when focusing at infinity, and f 5.6 when focusing at 0.16 m (minimum).
On the web we will find sample photos. Although the maximum aperture is “only” f 2.8, we can still achieve a very low depth of field by getting closer to the subject. For a 1: 1 magnification, the minimum distance is only 5.6 cm from the front lens.
It can be used not only for macros, but also, for example, for portraits. Thanks to its low weight and seal, it is a lens that the photographer reaches for when he goes out, such a hard worker for everyday use. The official price is set at CZK 18,490 including VAT, available in the second half of June 2021.
This piece has little competition among the lenses for the Z bayonet. We offer the Nikkor NIKKOR Z 50 mm f / 1.8 S, larger, twice as heavy, it is not a macro lens, but a little cheaper – about 15,000 CZK. We also have NIKKOR Z 50 mm f / 1.2 S or NIKKOR Z 58 mm f / 0.95 S Noct, however, the focus is elsewhere and the price. Third-party lenses, if we omit the connection via FTZ reduction, are only manual, but this does not matter for the macro. However, each alternative lacks something – macro, sealing, autofocus or, conversely, excess – reduction, intermediate ring, weight.

The second lens NIKKOR Z MC 105 mm f/2,8 VR S has physical dimensions of 140 mm to a length of 85 mm in diameter. The diameter of the filter thread is 62 mm. The weight is only 630 g (-120 g compared to 105 mm f / 2.8 G ED AF-S VR MICRO) and yet the lens has a seal against the ingress of dust and water and optical stabilization with an efficiency of up to 4.5 EV.
The lens has a focus ring and another ring with an optional function. On the body we also find a focusing distance limiter ∞ up to 0.29 m and 0.5 m to 0.29 m, a small status display, an adjustable function button and a switch for automatic and manual focusing.
The optical design consists of 16 lenses in 11 groups (3 low scatter glass optical elements, 1 aspherical optical element), including anti-reflective layers and a front element with fluorite protection. The screen is a circular nine-lamella. Focusing is internal, interesting are two focusing motors, which independently move two optical elements. Nikon also highlights the minimal change in focal length when focusing (so-called breathing, important for video shooting or focus stacking).
On the web again we find sample photos. The maximum aperture f2.8 ensures a very nice blurred background at a focal length of 105 mm. The lens can be used not only for macro at a scale of 1: 1, but also for portraits with a pleasantly blurred background.
The official price is set at CZK 28,490 including VAT, availability at the end of June.
It has practically no rival among the native lenses for the Z bayonet. Only NIKKOR Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S is offered, lighter, cheaper (approx. CZK 20,000) but not macro. The competition is the LAOWA 100 mm f / 2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO manual macro lens (approx. CZK 15,000) with a magnification ratio of up to 2: 1, or the SAMYANG 85 mm f / 1.4 (not a macro). An alternative is the glass for the F bayonet, however, these are usually heavier with the FTZ adapter. Every alternative (again) lacks something – macro, sealing, autofocus or, conversely, increases – reduction, intermediate ring.
