Nikitin revealed the details of the construction of the Novgorod airport

The Governor of the Novgorod Region Andrei Nikitin spoke about the details of the construction of a new airport in the region. In particular, he clarified that the first plane will be able to take off from the air harbor no earlier than 2025. This became known within the framework of SPIEF-2021.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2022. The construction of the airport is being carried out on the basis of the reconstructed military airfield of Krechevitsy near Veliky Novgorod. Before starting work, local authorities need to prepare pre-project documentation and transfer the site to federal ownership.

Andrei Nikitin noted that one should not compare the scale of the airport with the one located in Pulkovo. Novgorod is planning to receive only small flights, and the main passenger traffic will be directed directly to St. Petersburg.

“Plans for the reconstruction of the airport – there is a corresponding instruction from the President – I think they will not be quickly, but implemented. Of course, this will not be something comparable to Pulkovo. It will be just a platform where charters and some kind of business aviation can land.“, – explained the head of the region.

He also drew attention to the fact that now a lot is being done in the region for the cultural sphere: important objects that have been in desolation for a long time are being restored. For example, the second stage of the construction of the Sofiyskaya Embankment is underway, where observation platforms will subsequently appear, from which Novgorodians can admire the views.
