What is the difference between the version of the popular crossover in Russia, in which we went on a trip? The first is the new turbocharged gasoline engine ТСе 150 from Daimler with an output of 150 hp. with a torque of 250 Nm at 1700 rpm. The second is the 8th generation CVT X-Tronic CVT from Jatco. This CVT is already installed in models such as the Arkana and Kaptur, but in the new Duster it has been slightly modified for use in more severe conditions. For example, the company adjusted the 4WD LOCK mode for the markets of Russia and the CIS, in which a modified response to the accelerator pedal appeared for accurate dosage of traction, and the range of use of the torque converter increased by 3.75 times. Late lock-up of the torque converter in locked clutch mode will extend the CVT life, as in this mode the converter will lock at 45 km / h, while in normal 2WD or Auto mode it will lock at 12 km / h. The same is true for normal road traffic, it allows you to accelerate smoothly and evenly in an economical mode. To get maximum power, the accelerator pedal must be depressed more than 30%, at the same time the variator will emulate a stepped gear change.

In general, the combination of the new engine and variator is very well tuned, with accurate dosage you get the dynamics you need from the car, which is enough for various driving modes. On the track, the car shows itself very well, allowing you to move without problems at the maximum permitted speed, while also confidently going out to overtake. The CVT does not have the howl during acceleration, which is typical for some cars with a similar box, which, of course, is a plus.

In terms of comfort, the car for the track is not the best, but you can’t call it bad either. Noise from tires makes its way into the cabin, and aerodynamic noises appear at speed, while in the cabin you can still talk to passengers without raising your voice. The suspension works out large irregularities very gently, it smoothes out medium and small ones even worse, but a pothole or pothole with sharp edges practically pierces the suspension at speed, so you need to be careful.

Walking along the highway with comfort allows the usual cruise control, which, however, needs to be kicked, or rather, actively push the gas pedal after decelerating, since the car itself will very slowly pick up speed without your participation. A significant disadvantage on long trips is not the most comfortable seats, they are slightly soft, with a pillow of an average length, and the passenger seat has no lift and no lumbar support, so you get tired quickly enough in them.

On the off-road, the crossover shows itself as a fine fellow, it is not in vain that people who often go fishing or hunting choose it. This is affected by the large ground clearance of 210 mm, and short overhangs, as well as four-wheel drive and assistance when descending from the mountain. In the area of ​​the Romantsevskie Mountains, near Tula, we rode well off the roads, and not one of the Dasters in this off-road marathon got stuck or broke. For the sake of fairness, it is worth saying that the road we had was absolutely dry, but the expeditions that were in front of us gloriously mixed the mud there, and at the same time, none of the crossovers sat down and failed.

We moved along the route using standard navigation, which is made on the basis of TomTom maps. In the maximum configurations of Duster, navigation will be with online display of traffic jams, data on the cost of fuel on the dispensers, weather and online search along the route. The maps are quite fresh, outside the city navigation makes the best routes, but in Moscow, of course, it loses in full with the same Yandex.Maps, leading you not the best road and often not bypassing traffic jams.

To access online data, the navigation system in the crossover uses the ERA-GLONASS modem, in the case of Renault, the operator is Beeline. And also the modem uses the new Renault Connect system, which allows you to get remote access to the car from your smartphone. By installing the My Renault application on your device, which is available for both iOS and Android, you can remotely open and close the car, remotely start for 10 minutes to warm up or, conversely, cool the interior, track the location of the car, and immediately transfer point to it for subsequent navigation. The system works well, the main thing is that a data network is available, and you can access the car from anywhere in the world.

The price of a new Renault Duster with a ТСе 150 engine, a variator and all-wheel drive in the Drive configuration is 1,438,000 rubles, the maximum Style configuration will cost 1,498,000 rubles.
