New plan of the Russian government: 90 nm by the end of the year, 28 nm by 2030

Many companies are distancing themselves from Russian companies, which means that companies such as Baikal Electronics and MCST are trying to find support in Chinese companies, which, however, certainly does not make it easier for them. more exposed to restrictions by the Americans. Such a SMIC is already on the black list, but it only applies to technologies for more modern processes, so it is clear that it could be even worse.

At the same time, Russia is not known as a country full of advanced computer chip technologies, so while in the case of the world’s leading companies we are already talking about EUV, GAAFET transistors and nanometer resolution, the Russian government wants to invest to develop a 28nm process by 2030. as stated by the Russian mutation C news. At least 90nm of technology should be available by the end of the year.

Over the next eight years, the Russian government wants to invest 3.19 trillion rubles with this vision, which is currently less than $ 38.5 billion. This is not exactly a small amount, given that this is a development of processes that we can already consider obsolete. After all, TSMC increased spending to $ 40 billion to $ 44 billion this year, more or less the same as in the previous two years, and at the time of the 28nm process, TSMC had spending less than $ 5 billion in capital spending.

Of course, Russia is also becoming very isolated from a technological point of view, so the possibilities of using foreign technologies will be very limited and the trillions of rubles should not only go to the development of production technologies, but also to the development of chips themselves, data center infrastructure , education as well as marketing. Thus, about $ 5 billion should first fall on the production processes themselves.

The source also talks about reverse engineering third-party solutions, as one can simply name simple copying of other companies’ products, regardless of the law. Electronics and computer technology should be manufactured at home by 2024, and if this is not possible, then China should serve.

So far, however, it is only a draft plan that is currently being completed, which should be implemented only after it is approved by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. He should receive the final version no earlier than April 22.
