New machine concept for laser micro-drilling

Scan­lab supplies the basic component for the new machine concept stoba Cus­to­mi­zed Ma­chi­ne­ry for laser drilling in the micrometer range. The production machine integrates a five-axis precSYS microprocessor system with a femtosecond laser and optical measurement for automatic correction of drilling results. In this way, it is possible to achieve a significant increase in productivity in 24/7 industrial use of the machine.

In the new FocusONE laser machine, the Scanlab micro-drilling head is connected to the optical measuring system via EtherCAT. The stoba measuring system can check drilled holes from a diameter of 25 µm. Integrated machine control software analyzes the measurement results and automatically adjusts process parameters as required. For example, if the drilling result shows a trend that indicates a reduction in diameter by a few μm, the system automatically corrects the drilling diameter based on the individually set threshold. For reliable batch tracing, of course, the entire production process is comprehensively monitored and recorded.
Because these laser machines have great “autonomy” in terms of type changes (different drilling patterns) and integrated measuring procedures, one specialist is sufficient for the simultaneous operation of several machines.
The greatest advantages can be achieved in the mass production of expensive workpieces. In addition, traceability of manufactured parts can be easily ensured. The initial target markets are therefore medical technology, the automotive and aerospace industries.
