Netflix, Google or WhatsApp? Ranking shows the most popular brands in the world

The YouGov Brand Ranking honors the best brands in the world. This year’s best-placed companies are mainly large tech companies. But a German sports brand also made it into the top 10.

The international data and analytics group YouGov has the annual Best Brands Ranking which from the consumer perspective: publishes the world’s best brands. At the top of the podium is the same tech company as it was in 2020, while second and third places were taken again this year. A German brand made it to eighth place.

The ranking is based on the YouGov BrandIndex index value, which is calculated using online interviews in 54 markets. These were carried out between October 2020 and September 2021. The respondents rated the brands on the basis of the criteria of general impression, quality, price-performance ratio, customer satisfaction, willingness to recommend and employer image.

Google defends first place

Most popular with consumers: Google is inside and has a proud score of 111 points. The company was also able to secure first place last year. Second best in the ranking is Samsung, which finished fourth in 2020. Netflix, the brand in third place, also improved significantly compared to the previous year. Last year, the streaming service took sixth place.

Adidas as a German company in the top 10

While YouTube and WhatsApp complete the top five, two sports companies also land in the lower ranks of the global top 10: Adidas and Nike. The German brand Adidas made it to eighth place ahead of the competition. With 34 points, it is, from a global consumer perspective, the best brand in Germany.

Close race in Germany: dm and Lego at the top

In addition to the global ranking of the best brands, YouGov has also published the country-specific leaderboards. In Germany, the drugstore chain dm takes first place – but only slightly ahead of the toy brand Lego, which is only 0.7 points less in second place. DHL completes the podium with 44.9 points.

In the ranking of the brands that have improved the most, DHL even made it into first place with an increase of 6.3 points. Deutsche Post, which is also part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, comes in second with an increase of five points. The sports brand Adidas, which is the only German brand to make it into the global top 10, does not deserve a top ranking from the point of view of consumers: in Germany, on the other hand.
