Rome – Former vice president of Juventus Pavlo Nedvěd is again threatened with an eight-month ban from football for his role in the affair with the falsification of the accounts of the Turin club. The penalty is requested by the chief prosecutor of the Italian Football Association (FIGC) in a new trial against the club.
Juventus was accused of falsifying accounting already last year, and in November, the entire board of directors of the club, including the long-time chairman Andrea Agnelli and the former captain of the Czech national team, Nedvěd, were terminated because of this.
The 2003 Ballon d’Or winner then received an eight-month ban from football, which was overturned by the Italian Olympic Committee’s appeals court. Referring to new evidence, FIGC chief prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné is now asking for a new punishment for the former midfielder and six other officials.
Juventus originally lost 15 points in the table due to the affair, but this penalty was also overturned by the Court of Appeal. Chiné is now demanding 11 points for the club, which would send the “Old Lady” out of the cup three rounds before the end of the Italian league. The Turin team is second in the table.
On the other hand, Agnelli and former chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene, who received a two-year ban from the sports tribunal, failed to appeal. The Olympic Committee’s Court of Appeal upheld the punishment for both officials in April.
