Arcep updated its 5G deployment observatory with operator data as of January 31, 2021. This tool provides information on the 5G sites open commercially by operator and by type of frequency band.
Of the number of 5G sites opened commercially, Free Mobile leads the way with 6,273 sites, ahead of Bouygues Telecom (1,885 sites), Orange (953 sites) and SFR (869 sites). A single site can be equipped with several frequency bands for the 5G service. All frequency bands combined, nearly 10,000 sites are open.
The low bands provide better surface coverage and inside buildings. The speeds increase significantly with the high bands as with the 5G core band at 3.5 GHz.
On the 3.5 GHz band, Orange is in the lead with 711 sites on, ahead of Free Mobile (410 sites), Bouygues Telecom (275 sites) and SFR (198 sites). Over a month, there are 400 additional sites in the 3.5 GHz band.
Arcep’s 5G deployment observatory can be viewed here. It offers documents and a cartography by region.
