On the 15th, NCsoft announced that it will conduct the ‘2021 NC Fellowship’, an artificial intelligence (AI) talent development program.
The NC Fellowship is a program for college students to gain experience and knowledge in AI research. Students studying AI-related fields at major domestic universities will participate. AI researchers working at NCsoft will work together to help participants grow into competent AI talents. It started in 2018 and has reached its fourth year this year.
A total of 11 universities participate. It is divided into the existing Game AI Track and the newly prepared Neural Graphics Track field. Participating students will conduct online AI education, team development tasks, and contests for about a year, starting with the online briefing held on April 15th.
8 AI-related clubs from 7 universities including Korea University, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Ewha Womans University, Chung-Ang University, and KAIST will participate in the Game AI Track. Systematic learning of technology in the field of Game AI through reinforcement learning, machine learning, and deep learning.
Neural Graphics Track is conducted in connection with graphics lectures at six universities including Kyunghee University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, KAIST, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), and Hanyang University. It fosters students who are interested in the metaverse service and the latest AI-based graphics technology for next-generation games.
NCsoft selects the winning team and runner-up team in the competition. A total of 20 million won will be awarded. Excellent participating teams are also provided with internship opportunities to work at NCsoft.
Kyung-Jong Lee, head of NCsoft’s AI Center Game AI Lab, said, “The NC Fellowship is a program that aims to help students grow as AI experts. We plan to actively support the development and use of AI technology.”
NCsoft started AI research in 2011 and is currently operating an R&D organization with about 200 AI-specialized research personnel. The AI Center and the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Center are conducting research and development (R&D) on AI in game and non-game fields.
