NASA detects asteroid that will pass next to Earth and that is twice the size of the Empire State Building
An asteroid, named 418135 (2008 AG33), twice the size of the Empire State Building in New York, USA, will pass next to planet Earth on Thursday, NASA reported, quoted by Science Alert.
With a diameter between 350 and 780km and a speed of 37,400km/h, the asteroid is not on the impact path, passing us at a distance of 3.2 million kilometers – which represents about eight times the average distance between the Earth and the Moon.
Note that NASA marks any space object within a radius of 193 million kilometers from Earth as a “near Earth object” and any fast-moving object within a radius of 7.5 million kilometers as “potentially dangerous”.
