A huge whale carcass was lifted out of the Mediterranean off the coast of Sorrento in southern Italy.
The corpse is one of the largest ever found in the Mediterranean.
Divers at the local coast guard discovered the remains on Sunday near Sorrento, led by a young whale to the corpse. Shortly after being found, the body rose to the surface. The Coast Guard decided it should be lifted out of the sea.
Two ships and significant forces were needed to lift the carcass of about 70 tons out of the water on Tuesday night, which was then towed from Sorrento to Naples, where they arrived on Wednesday.
It will then be dissected by marine biologists and other experts to determine the cause of the extinction.
It is also planned that the gigantic skeleton will eventually be exhibited in a museum.
Meanwhile, they search for the little whale, which, after leading the divers to the corpse, has returned to the open water.
