MSI blog: notebooks from the prestige category

Once again, we take a look at a notebook family with a truly expressive name: the elegant Prestige series.

MSI likes to guess the purpose of its notebooks from its name. So you don’t have to think much about where to classify the Titan gamer configuration or the Summit business family. Our current entry is about the Prestige series, which is close to the latter, which mainly covers the powerful, upper and upper middle category classic notebooks that can also be used for business purposes. Although the target audience at first glance is very similar to the Summit, an important difference is that the Prestige series only includes models with a traditional “clamshell” structure, there are no 2-in-1 versions among them.

In terms of sizes, the family consists of two members, the 14″. From Prestige 14 it is 15.6″-es From Prestige 15. Their specifications are very similar: they can be ordered with a 28-watt, 12th generation Intel Core i7 P processor, up to 32 GB of memory and an NVMe SSD. For the latter, the 14″ housing contains one and the 15.6″ housing contains two sockets. As a graphics processor, you can basically choose from the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, RTX 3050, RTX 3050 Ti trio, but in the case of the Prestige 14 you don’t have to stick to the dedicated VGA, we can stick with the Iris Xe integrated in the CPU. Since in this case the notebook already fully meets the conditions of the Intel Evo platform, this configuration is indicated by the manufacturer as Prestige 14 EVO.

In the case of the display, it can be seen that MSI mainly thought of office work when creating the series, because the Prestige 14 has a 60 Hz, Full HD resolution and 72% NTSC (this corresponds to approximately 100% sRGB ) received an IPS panel with a color space. In the case of the Prestige 15, the standard equipment includes a screen of the same quality, only with a 15.6″ screen diagonal, but users with more serious demands on the display can also be happy here, as it optionally includes 4K, 100% Adobe RGB and thanks to factory calibration, it is also possible to choose a solution offering color fidelity delta E < 2. We would also like to mention the Prestige 14 EVO equipment, which has a particularly low consumption, Full HD IPS panel offering 100% sRGB.

In terms of the exterior, the notebooks are available in two colors: the 14″ in dark gray Carbon Gray and grayish-blue Bluestone, and the 15.6″ in Carbon Gray and silvery Urban Silver. The machine housing is elegant and thin, this means a thickness of 16 mm for the smaller model and 19 mm for the larger one. The other physical parameters affecting portability are not bad either, thanks to the thin display frame, the footprint is not large, 319 x 219 mm and 357 x 234 mm, respectively, while the weights are under 1.3 kg and 1.7 kg, respectively.

The keyboard has a white backlight. The range of connectors is adequate, and in the case of the 15.6″ version, it can be said to be particularly rich. In both sizes, we get two Thunderbolt 4 interfaces (which are also used for charging), these are supplemented by one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A socket for the Prestige 14 and two for the Prestige 15. Both machines have a microSD slot and a combined audio connector, but the bigger brother also has an HDMI output. Wireless technologies include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

Regarding the Prestige, MSI was not satisfied with creating a small and light notebook either, but also tried to improve portability in other ways. These include, on the one hand, the relatively high-capacity battery (52 Wh in the 14″ and 82 Wh in the 15.6″), as well as USB-PD-based fast charging, which after approximately 48 minutes can already charge the batteries to over 60%. Great emphasis was also placed on security, in addition to the fingerprint reader integrated into the touchpad, face recognition is also available, thanks to the Windows Hello compatible webcam. In case the notebook somehow needs legs, it is familiar from Summit MSI Tile service is also available here to find out the machine’s location.
