The Priekule stage, which last year received the highest rating among all stages of the LVM MTB marathon in the participants’ survey, stood out this year with the longest tracks of the season. Although long, the tracks were hilly and interesting. The competition center was located in the stadium of Priekule Secondary School, where the exciting “Maxima” children’s rides also took place. The biggest challenge for the participants on the sunny day was the intense heat.
In the “Toyota Gravel” distance, participants competed over a distance of 79 kilometers. In the first part of the distance, a big gap of six riders formed, which later split. In the final part, Māris Bogdanovićs, from “Giant&Liv team Latvia”, took the solo lead, who also won. Māris overtook the nearest follower Sandija Kļaviņa (“VeloExpress Scott” by nine seconds. A big success for Matīs Zērvēns (“Roadex”), who took the third position, 33 seconds behind the winner. Kārlis Vanags, Juris Damškalns (“DTG – MySport “) and Arnis Lācis.
In the women’s competition, Katrīna Januslaviete-Kipurei, the athlete of “ZZK”, overtook her closest follower Renāti Rodionova (“ĀdažiVelo”) by 14 minutes and 54 seconds. The third place went to Krista Pūcīte, who was separated from the winner by more than 35 minutes.
The competition in the adventurous “Lielbāta MTB” distance was much more intense. Gusts Lapiņš, the Latvian junior champion in road cycling in the individual race, was slightly faster than his competitors in the last few meters of the less than 40-kilometer track. Kuldīdznieks overtook the closest follower and peer Rainer Zviedras (“Dako Zielmevidzeme”) by 3 seconds. Overall leader Đirts Cirvelis (“Roadex”) crossed the finish line third, who was separated from the victory by 13 seconds.
In the women’s competition, the representative of “Bauskas velokomanda” Laura Ramane returned to victory. She beat the winner of the Smiltene stage, the girl from the youth group, Amanda Reilija Zariņa (“Baldones bike team”) by more than three minutes. The top three was completed by Anita Antone representing the Latvian Cycling girls team.
Rihards Lozbers, the representative of “DTG – MySport”, continued to win laurels in the boys’ and girls’ group competition, which is traditionally held at the “Mammadaba” Health Journey distance. For Talsiniek, the victory was much more difficult than in the previous rounds. He overtook the closest follower, Alvilas Petersons, by less than a second. The third place goes to Kristas Bunci from Ventspils. First place for girls goes to Kate Skujiņa (“Wess motors Toyota”). She was followed by Laura Klismet and Loreta Vaisuna.
The final stage of the season is expected on September 24 in Zaķumuiža, Ropaži county.
