The mother has gone missing leaving a baby in the neonatal unit of the 250-bed General Hospital in Kushtia. The child is currently under the care of hospital authorities.

According to hospital sources, a woman named Rini Khatun was admitted to the gynecology ward on Wednesday (September 7). That day she gave birth to a son through normal delivery.

The hospital authorities said that the child was taken to the neonatal unit as he was ill. As the mother and child were in two wards, the disappearance of the mother was not known at first.

Later on Thursday morning, when the mother was found, the matter came to light. The child’s mother has not been found since then.

On condition of anonymity, the doctors in charge of the neonatal unit of the hospital said that Rini Khatun gave her village home address in Kaburhat area of Batoil Union of Sadar Upazila of Kushtia during admission. Husband’s name is Momin. However, the hospital authorities have come to know that the address is not correct.

Meanwhile, it is known from several sources that Rini Khatun is the wife of an expatriate. Many people think that he has committed such a crime due to the fear of public shame.

Kushtia General Hospital supervisor Dr. MA Momen confirmed this information and said that the child is now healthy. He has been kept in the scan ward of the hospital.

Stating that the matter has been informed to the police station, he said, “We are investigating the matter.”

In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, Delwar Hossain Khan, was contacted several times over the phone, but he did not receive the call.
