A court in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram has sentenced the accused boy to death by hanging as the murder of his mother was proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
Kurigram District and Sessions Judge Abdul Mannan passed the order in a crowded court on Tuesday afternoon.
According to court sources, the wife of Montazul Alam, 38, son of Solaiman Ali of Umarpanthabari village in Rajarhat sub-district of the district, got into an argument and left him. When his wife left, he became a little mentally unbalanced. On the afternoon of March 20, 2020, when Montazul pressed Meherjan Begum Minu (58) for a second marriage, she refused. In this incident, the enraged son killed his mother with a sharp ax. Soon after the incident, the locals arrested Montazul and handed him over to the police. Solaiman Ali, the husband of the deceased and the father of the accused, filed a murder case with the Rajarhat police station after his son Montazul became the plaintiff. After a long hearing, the wise judge gave the verdict in the case today.
