Abbess Darija was born in 1950 in Nis as Draga Pantić. She spent her childhood and youth in her hometown, where she finished elementary and high school, as well as the Faculty of Physical Education. After the marriage, together with her husband, Nishlija Nebojsa Popovic, she came to Priboj where they both found a job and founded their family nest. Mother Darija was a professor at the elementary school “Vuk Karadzic” in Priboj. In the new environment, she gained a great reputation as a hard worker, a great pedagogue and a favorite professor.
As she was brought up in a patriarchal family, she never forgot her faith. During the communist era, she was the president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters at the Priboj church of St. Prince Lazarus. With her husband, she had two sons, Srdjan and Ivan, of whom she has seven grandchildren.
After the death of her husband, she decided to take the monastic path, so she was ordained a monk in the Kumanica monastery in 2009. Hardworking and hardworking by nature, immediately after becoming a monk, she asked the Bishop to send her to the Davidovica monastery, which she wanted to renovate. And she completely succeeded in that.
At Cveti in 2010, she was appointed abbess of the Davidovica monastery. What others destroyed and dismantled for 350 years, she renewed with hard work and effort, so that today the Davidovica Monastery is a beautifully decorated, built and respectable monastery. She gave all her property and everything she had for the renovation of the monastery. And she mostly went in old patched clothes.
She has had health problems for many years, mostly with asthma. And she bravely presented her last fight here on earth. She overcame a vicious disease but her weakened body failed to cope with the consequences. God called her from this transient rotten world to a better and imperishable one.

The requiem Liturgy will be served on Thursday, January 14, 2021, in the Davidovica Monastery, starting at 9 a.m., while the funeral of Mother Daria will be served at 12 a.m. in the monastic cemetery of the Davidovica family, where the funeral will take place. The Liturgy and the service will be served by His Eminence the Bishop of Mileševo, Mr. Athanasius.
