More Than 69 Lakh Travelers Used Air Flights In September – Domestic Aircraft Passengers Cross 69 Lakh

New Delhi. Credit rating agency Icra said on Wednesday that India’s domestic air passengers grew by three per cent in September to over 6.9 million. The number of domestic air passengers in August was around 67 lakh.

Domestic flights operated with 54 per cent capacity compared to the same month last year. At the same time, the number of air passengers increased by 74 percent in September on a year-on-year basis. The airlines operated around 61,100 flights in September, compared to 39,628 in the same month in 2020.

Permission to fly with 85% capacity
Due to the second wave of the pandemic, the Civil Aviation Ministry has reduced the passenger flying capacity for airlines to 50 per cent. This capacity was increased to 72.5 per cent on 12 August, from which it was increased to 85 per cent with effect from 18 September till further orders.

On an average 113 passengers per flight
ICRA Vice President Supriyo Banerjee said that in September 2021, about 2100 flights were operated daily. Whereas in September last year, the average daily departure of aircraft was only 1,321. It was over 1,900 in August 2021. The average number of passengers per flight in September was 113, while in August, 2021 an average of 117 passengers traveled per flight.
