More than 370 people saved by the Portuguese Navy since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of the year, the Portuguese Navy has carried out 332 maritime search and rescue actions, resulting in a total of 377 lives saved.
The information was released this Monday by the authority in a statement, which also informs that “until the end of August, there were 206 incidents in the area corresponding to the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Lisbon, in which they were saved 232 people”.
In the “area of responsibility of the MRCC of Ponta Delgada, 107 search and rescue actions have been coordinated so far, with 129 people being rescued” and, through Funchal’s Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcenter, 19 actions were carried out, and 16 lives saved.
Regarding the month of August alone, 40 actions were carried out and 26 lives were saved
The efficiency rate of the service is at 99%.
