More than 2,500 people have mastered new IT professions at the Yandex Academy this year

Yandex Academy helps schoolchildren and students who are fond of technology to master the demanded IT professions according to programs developed by the company’s experts. The Academy brings together several educational projects. In Yandex.Liceum, pupils in grades 8-10 learn the basics of industrial programming. Applicants from all over the country who have already decided on the direction and want to develop in the IT field can enroll in joint Yandex programs with universities. They go to the School of Data Analysis to become world-class specialists in the field of data science.

The first stage of training is Yandex.Lece. This year more than 2 thousand people graduated from it. During two years of study, lyceum students acquire the skills of junior developers: this knowledge is enough to create their first projects already at school. Among them are their own platforms for competitions and testing in schools and universities, web games, electronic magazines and various applications from a book search service to educational games for children. Many of the graduates later enter the leading technical universities. Now, according to Yandex.Lycea programs, they study at 372 sites in 169 cities of Russia and Kazakhstan.

The next step in the educational trajectory of IT specialists is the joint programs of Yandex and leading Russian universities. By developing cooperation with universities, Yandex shares its expertise and opens up new opportunities for students and teachers in different regions of the country. 477 students have graduated from joint programs this year. More than a thousand applicants will be enrolled in the fall.

Students and alumni who want to study data analysis at a deeper level enter the SHAD – Yandex School of Data Analysis. The concept of the school combines reliance on the fundamental foundations of mathematics and high practice orientation. The school has graduated 133 data science specialists this year. Since 2007, more than 1,000 students have graduated from ShAD. A third of the graduates who completed the two-year program have worked or continue to work in Yandex, the rest – in the largest IT companies (Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Apple) and leading research centers. Graduates are involved in the development of computer vision, implement machine learning in fintech companies, develop solutions in the field of biotechnology, and also lead research and launch their own startups.

“At the Yandex Academy, we create opportunities for the development of IT specialists: Yandex.Leceum, our university programs and SAD are forming a single educational trajectory designed for schoolchildren and students of different ages and levels of training, – comments Elena Bunina, CEO of Yandex in Russia. – We build educational programs and figure out how to scale them: we initiate joint projects with universities, help launch educational sites in different cities. We share our expertise and use experience and resources to qualitatively improve the educational environment in Russia. Only in this way, by investing in a common cause, can the development of the economy, industry and society as a whole be supported “.
