- The popular American service DoorDash has a problem
- It deliberately makes its services more expensive for iPhone users
- What is the truth?

iPhone 14 Pro
DoorDash is one of the most popular food delivery services in the US. However, according to the new lawsuit, the company is charging iPhone users more than Android users for the exact same orders. Could there be some truth to this?
Unclear charges for iPhone users
Plaintiffs argue, inter alia, that DoorDash uses some obscure “delivery” or “extra remote delivery” fees as a way to hide the higher prices it then charges iPhone users.
The authors of the lawsuit prove these claims with several examples, when they ordered the same meals from the same restaurant at the same place and at the same time for the test. Some of their results are truly startling. The fee for extra remote delivery, even if the order was to the same place from the same restaurant, was practically always charged only to iPhone.

The justification is still missing
Furthermore, there is no logical reason why DoorDash charges this fee, according to the lawsuit. The company does not even mention it on its website and does not respond to repeated questions about this fee. The situation gets even weirder when the customer pays for DashPass, a $10-a-month subscription that gives them free delivery.
They say that this customer often pays the same as someone without a DashPass. DoorDash is said to add this fee for “extra remote” delivery to the order, which of course is not covered by the subscription. The lawsuit also includes several screenshots purporting to show that iPhone users and DashPass subscribers pay higher fees than Android users and non-subscribers.
Do you have more money? Pay extra
“As the tests above show (…), DoorDash regularly charges iPhone users more than Android users for reasons unrelated to the cost of delivering an order. DoorDash is likely charging iPhone users more because studies suggest that iPhone users make more money than Android users. (…) These practices are repugnant.”
Of course, DoorDash disagrees with these allegations and insists that their fees are transparent and the customer is always aware of how much and what they are paying for.
