More fly with Norwegian – but there is a long way to go until the 2019 figures

The airline Norwegian has progressed in the number of passengers. But still lagging far behind the gilded years before corona.

In April, just over 1.7 million passengers flew with the Norwegian low-cost airline. This is around 200,000 more than the month before and 19 percent more than the month of April the year before.

This is evident from Norwegian’s traffic figures for April, which were published on Friday.

For comparison, the company had 3.1 million passengers in the month of April in 2019, before covid-19 hit the world.

Nevertheless, Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, expects the summer season to be the best in the company’s history.

– We are happy that more and more people are choosing to fly with Norwegian, and I look forward to welcoming new and existing passengers on board in what looks set to be the strongest summer for Norwegian ever, he says in a Press release.

The Scandinavian airline SAS has also increased the number of passengers in recent months. In March, 1.9 million passengers flew on an SAS aircraft. The figure for April has not yet been published.

SAS is still the largest airline at Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup, while Norwegian is now the second largest. In 2022, Norwegian accounted for 16 percent of the airport’s passengers in 2022.

This was apparent from Copenhagen Airport’s annual accounts for 2022, which were published in March.

Norwegian earned around DKK 680 million in 2022. In connection with the annual accounts, the company also expressed that it expected increased travel activity this year.

– It is clear that Norwegian is on an upward trend. It is also necessary, said Sydbank’s equity analysis manager and aviation analyst Jacob Pedersen in connection with the annual accounts in February.

He also pointed out that Norwegian has mastered some of the basic things that make an airline run. However, without it being ostentatious.
