Solar energy, its potential and use were discussed during the international conference DAYS OF THE SUN, which was held this year in Bol on the island of Brač. Our region has an enviable solar potential, but unfortunately it is very little used. Experts hope that thanks to numerous projects in this area by 2030, as much as 45 percent of energy will come from renewable sources.

Production at the point of consumption is the topic of the panel, which attracted a lot of attention from all conference participants. What could be heard is that there is a great interest in the installation of solar panels in Croatia and that the number of power plants located on the distribution network is constantly growing. A large number of citizens want to install solar power plants on the roofs of their houses because in this way they can become energy independent, to save energy, which affects their electricity bills.

The participants of the panel referred to the legal regulations when it comes to the construction of solar power plants, as well as the problems of connection to the grid. They also mentioned the difficulties faced by citizens living in residential buildings, precisely because roofs are common property, and the consent of all tenants is required in order to install solar panels on the roof.

Miloš Kostić, director of the company MT-KOMEX, which is a leader when it comes to the construction of solar power plants in Serbia, spoke about how in 2013 he built the first power plant “Solaris Energy” in our country. He referred to the procedures he had to go through then and that the big challenge was how to finance the entire project.

“After we built the first power plant, ten years ago, we focused on projects in this area. This year, in April, we put into operation the currently largest power plant in Serbia, “DeLasol”, for which a PPA contract was signed”, pointed out Kostić and added that in 2017 the company MT-KOMEX started the development of electromobility.

As he explained, they took the first steps in Serbia by installing chargers for electric cars and marketing a digital platform and application Charge&GO, which allows drivers of electric cars to locate chargers in a quick and easy way. They are currently working on the development of the network in Serbia, but the plan is to install chargers in the region.

The regional situation in solar was discussed at a panel attended by Danijela Isailović, manager of the Association of Renewable Energy Serbia. She pointed out that there is great interest in the construction of solar power plants in our country, after all, as in the entire region. She reminded that the amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources have been adopted and that the first round of auctions will soon be held.

The DAYS OF THE SUN conference brought together more than 400 participants, 60 panelists and lecturers. The sponsors of the conference dedicated to the development of solar energy projects were the European Commission, the Government of the Republic of Croatia, SolarPower Europe, the Ministry of Regional Development and Funds of the European Union, the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, the Ministry of Agriculture, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
