Morawiecki’s visit to Zagreb

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is in Zagreb, where he met with the head of the Croatian government, Andrej Plenkovic. Earlier, the head of the Polish government in Budapest met with the prime ministers of the Visegrad Group countries.

– Poland will continue its efforts to de-escalate this tension and seek the best possible solutions. Our diplomatic activities to date have already resulted in the fact that the influx of new migrants from the Middle East has practically stopped today, said the Prime Minister at a press conference with Plenkoviv.

Prime Minister Morawiecki thanked the head of the Croatian government for supporting Polish initiatives, incl. Three Seas Initiative and for the presence of Croatian soldiers as part of international forces on Polish soil.

– Years ago, on the wave of enthusiasm, we could assume that sovereignty and prosperity are only a one-way path and will never be disturbed. Today, unfortunately, we see that they need to be defended, we need to consolidate, we need to focus on the main priorities, and this is what we are doing together with our allies – he stressed.

According to the Prime Minister, “today is the time for Europe, from Stockholm to Zagreb, from Warsaw to Lisbon, to really focus on what is most important today – ensuring economic development, growth, prosperity, stability, peace, also peace on our borders.” “Thank you very much for the fact that we are on the same wavelength together with Croatia,” he said.

The head of the Polish government once again emphasized that on the border with Belarus we are dealing with “intentional use of people” by the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka in order to cause “deep destabilization in this part of Europe”. But – as he argued – the current migration crisis is only one of the elements of the attempt to destabilize the situation in Europe.

– The second element is the concentration of Russian troops (…) around Ukraine, in the Kaliningrad Oblast and other places. The third element is the energy crisis caused by very high ETS prices and gas price manipulations by Gazprom and Russia, the Prime Minister pointed out.

The fourth issue, he added, is Russian disinformation and propaganda, which are working intensively on several issues, including the Covid-19 pandemic. According to him, there are also propaganda activities by Russia, which “are supposed to divide us within the EU”.

– In order to strengthen the European Union, it is the second lung, as our great compatriot (John Paul II) said, we are building together with Croatia and several others and countries the so-called Three Seas dimension so that the north-south infrastructure – gas, energy, road creates new development prospects for Croatia, for Poland and for the countries here, stressed the Prime Minister. He recalled that to this end, Poland supports the efforts of Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria to join the Schengen area.
