Money laundering will reduce: Foreign Minister – Daily Azadi

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, “The new visa policy of the United States will reduce money laundering.”

He said this to reporters at an event organized at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital Dhaka on Saturday (May 27).

After the event, he told reporters about the new visa policy of the United States, “Visas are taken by big people (of the United States), government employees, some big businessmen, civil society, politicians who need visas, whose sons and daughters study abroad, who have built houses abroad, who have smuggled money.” Hopefully, this will reduce money laundering because they take it and build a structure.”

He said, “And those poor people become polling agents of political parties in elections. They don’t come for visas.”

When asked whether the government is embarrassed about the visa policy, Dr. Momen said, “Not at all. It is their (America’s) business not to grant visas, it is not our business. Visas are issued by America at its own risk.”

When asked whether the ambassadors of India and Saudi Arabia posted in Dhaka have been given additional security, the foreign minister said, “I don’t know about it.” However, no ambassador has yet applied for additional security. Besides, no foreign country has done such a wrongful act that they will be attacked. There is no lack of security in our country. We are not worried about that.”

In response to a question. Momen said, “There have been no attacks on ambassadors in recent times. However, the attack on former US Ambassador Marsha Barnicutt’s car was due to Badiul Alam Mazumder’s family problems. It was a Shala-Dulabhai issue, which later became a state issue.”
