MoE calls to allow shopping centers to work on holidays after November 15 / Day

The politician said that compromises had been reached on various issues related to restrictions in certain areas of the economy.

“An agreement has been reached on street trade as it will be after November 15. It was important that our craftsmen, home producers are able to sell their products, which are often produced and made all year round, but in December there is active trade,” the minister said. adding that street sales will be allowed after November 15.

According to Wittenberg, the broadest discussion at the coalition meeting was on trade regulation.

“Here, the call from the MoE is to allow outlets to work in ‘green mode’, regardless of the day of the week, not to try to limit working hours. A similar model exists in Lithuania, and I know that colleagues in the Operational Management Group are currently discussing this offer,” the official said.

He explained that after the “arcade” catering services will be available indoors in “green mode”. The National Union calls for large families to gather at one table, without the four-person limit, so that “families with three children also have the opportunity to sit at the same table and not have to move a child to the next table after the lottery”.

“An important issue of concern to the industry is to find an opportunity for the vaccinated contacts to work on the test after 15 November, as more and more such contacts remain,” the minister said.

According to him, such regulation would have a particularly significant impact on, for example, the production sector, where after the detection of one patient, an entire workshop can be quarantined as a contact person and production must be stopped. Work on this issue with the Ministry of Health is still ongoing.

It has already been reported that until November 15, strict Covid-19 restrictions are in force in Latvia, when shopping centers are closed. At a government meeting last week, it was said that only small retail outlets could then operate in an unsafe environment, while all other shops and service providers would only be available in “green mode”. However, it is planned that shopping centers will not be open on weekends and holidays.
