Moby released an album with symphonic versions of major hits. Natural blues just fire

At the end of May, the world heard the latest album Moby – Reprise, in which familiar tracks were played with the participation of a real Budapest Art Orchestra, and even a bunch of different colleagues in the music workshop noted their presence on the disc.

This album certainly had to come out as a retrospective of Moby’s entire musical career, in order to remind everyone of the greatness of the electronic music maestro.

The same songs, only more epic

On the album, you can hear and relive the orchestral and acoustic versions of the songs “Natural Blues», «Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad», «Porcelain“And many others.

Impressive track “Go“, Which turned into almost a rave song, and”God Moving Over the Face of the Water“Which sounds like the soundtrack to an unreleased blockbuster.

Everyone knows Moby. But it was not always so

Richard Melville Hall, better known all over the world under the pseudonym Moby, was one of the first DJs, thanks to whom the public in America and in the UK fell in love with electronic music.

He famously mixed punk rhythms, heavy guitars and pulsating disco, doing it heartily and without looking back at other musicians. Perhaps that is why the cult album “Play”, in the success of which Moby himself did not believe, simply broke the charts and for a long time settled in the very first lines of the charts around the world.

It was not by chance that the musician took a pseudonym in honor of the whale from the book “Moby Dick”. The fact is that Richard is the distant ancestor of the author, Herman Melville.

The fame and the crowd of thousands of fans did not spoil the musician, who did not even change the habit of going to the same cafe on weekends. So while touring in support of his new records, Moby always felt uncomfortable under the gaze of so many people who came to his concert.

Around 2014, the musician came up with the idea to re-record his old songs, which were mostly created in his home studio. Along with this idea, Moby finally realized that he hated large-scale concerts and began experimenting with acoustic sets in small clubs.

Four years later, Moby performed with the Los Angeles Orchestra, and after the concert a representative of the Deutsche Grammophon label approached him with a proposal to record a full-length orchestral album. Moby agreed, because he himself always loved classical music, besides, most of the tracks had already been repeatedly tested and played acoustically.

This is how the Reprise album was born.

Not only an album, but also a movie

In addition to the album, the documentary Moby Doc was also released, in which the musician talks about his career. The footage features interviews with David Bowie and David Lynch and directed by Rob Gordon Bralver, who directed in 2011 “Morphine: The Story of Mark Sandman».

The film is already available in some countries, and the world premiere will take place on July 30. On the official page you can learn more about where and how to view this documentary.

In general, the album and the documentary allow not only to rediscover old hits in a fresh sound (Natural blues performed by Gregory Porter is just a firefighter), but also to better understand the soul of the musician, who has always remained a modest guy from the suburbs, making his music without looking at trends and criticism.

Keep it up, Moby.
