Mlada Beba and Regis take you to the “Other World” on their new album

Treperka from Subotica, Young Babyshe recently released a collaboration album Another worldproduced by a producer and sound designer from Podgorica, Regisa, with whom she has collaborated before. The album was released for a Croatian label bait.

Recorded in the isolated Montenegrin village of Zagarači, and inspired by a difficult breakup, the album is conceived as an oasis of security, where pain gives way to intense emotions and an exaggerated sense of euphoria. The rich production, which hides a dissonant and eclectic mix of hyperpop, trap, bouncy Atlantic bass and intricate PluggnB behind the deceptively naive facade of balkanized alternative R&B, together with Baby’s vocals, which fluctuate according to the whims of autotune, are his main assets.

If the name wasn’t enough to convey the point, the cover of the issue, surrounded by a fluid, blurred, life-like logo, also shows Regis in the form of a harmonious, idyllic nuclear family with two children in a liminal, “copy-pasted” landscape that, in addition to the bright white appearance of “parents” , and clothes as if from a hyperreal catalog from the films of the 2000s, makes it clear that it is only an unfulfilled dream of a generation, which sublimates its disappointment through idealized fables about love, parties and fleeting pleasures.
