Mitsubishi has introduced the new Airtrek electric SUV

The Japanese from Mitsubishi presented the new Airtrek electric SUV at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The new model will only be available on the Chinese market starting next spring.

Announced in the spring of this year, the new Mitsubishi Airtrek was developed based on the concept of “e-cruising SUV”. Airtrek is not a new name for the Japanese manufacturer, it is used by the first generation Outlander for the Chinese market (2001-2008).

However, the new Airtrek has nothing in common with the new Outlander other than the fact that it is an SUV. Mitsubishi Airtrek measures 4,600 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height. That makes it 80mm shorter, but 50mm wider than the Outlander.

70 kWh battery and 520 km range

Based on the Aion V, another electric SUV launched in 2020 by GAC Motors, the new Airtrek received a set of dual LED headlights, a Dynamic Shield grille that connects the two front headlights with an LED wand, as well as shaped LED taillights of the letter L positioned on the tailgate. The electric SUV can be ordered in two shades, the Japanese also offering customers “two-tone” color combinations.

The battery of the new Mitsubishi Airtrek has a capacity of 70 kWh, which offers a range of 520 km according to Chinese CTLC standards. The Japanese manufacturer did not provide details about the electric motor, but it is possible that Airtrek will receive the same engine that is found on the model from which it is derived, Aion V. It is an electric unit whose power is between 218 and 260 hp.

Mitsubishi did not reveal photos with the dashboard, but from the only available image you can see a touch screen for the infotainment system positioned at the top of the center console.

The electric SUV will be produced by the Chinese joint venture GAC Mitsubishi Motors, and sales will begin in the spring of 2022.
