Ministry of Health Reveals Covid-29 Cases Continue to Decline, Towards Endemic?

Suara.com – After briefly increasing with the new XBB and BQ.1 variants, recently Covid-19 cases in Indonesia have started to decline.

In a virtual press conference, Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Health, dr. M Syahril said, there was a decrease in Covid-19 cases reaching 21 percent. This decline also indicates that the latest variant of Covid-19 has reached its peak.

Syahril explained, the peak of the Covid-19 XBB and BQ.1 cases was not as high as the previous variants. This shows good news, which means that the transmission of Covid-19 can be controlled properly.

In addition, the role of the community in continuing to comply with health protocols and vaccinations is also the key to the declining number of Covid-19 cases.

“Getting here, the peak number of spikes is not as high as before. This indicates that the transmission can be controlled with the community adhering to health protocols and carrying out vaccinations,” said Syahril in a virtual press conference, Friday (2/12/2022).

Besides that, according to Syahril, if the Covid-19 number continues to decrease, it will have a good impact. He hopes this figure will remain stable for the next few months. Thus, Indonesia will be able to reach the endemic phase of Covid-19.

“If possible, the numbers will continue to decrease and remain stable, it doesn’t need to be zero, but under control for a long time, within 3-6 months, stable. Then we can reach endemic, yes,” he said.

Meanwhile, towards the Covid-19 endemic, the Ministry of Health has also prepared efforts and strategies to keep cases under control, including the following.

  1. Communicating risks through outreach to the public that the Covid-10 pandemic still exists.
  2. Conducting 1st, 2nd, and booster vaccinations for the general public.
  3. Ensuring the readiness of the health service system from upstream to downstream.
  4. Perform testing and sequencing.
  5. Always prepare in anticipation if one day there is a spike in cases.
  6. Perform comprehensive and continuous preventive and control actions.

In anticipation of an increase during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays, Syahril hopes that people can still go on vacation, but be disciplined with health protocols to suppress post-holiday increases.
