Prague – Extremely soon, lover Kristiina Mäki had to start preparing Christmas presents, because in two weeks she will be leaving for a concentric to South Africa and will return four days before Christmas. Today’s ceremonial announcement of the Athlete of the Year poll, in which she took fourth place as the best woman, was considered a pleasant exaggeration from her usual maternal duties.

The story of a Czech runner with Finnish roots, who reached the 1,500-meter Olympic final seven months after giving birth, captivated sports fans at the Tokyo Games. “I wouldn’t believe it. My main goal was to be nominated for the Olympic Games, and then I didn’t decide what would happen in Tokyo anymore,” she recalled at the beginning of the evening, which she spent with her partner Filip Sasínek and his and her parents. Little Kaap was guarded by her brother. “It’s nice, it’s unlike those other evenings where we bathe, feed and go to sleep. So it’s a nice mess,” she praised herself in her red formal dress.

At the same time, however, he is already preparing for the new season for the fifth week. She had to leave the training camp in Šumava prematurely because her son ended up in the hospital. “He got some bacteria. I went to see him right away. But I think he chose it at the right time, that it was just a preparatory training, so nothing happened,” she said.

Kaapo is already standing by the couch and stepping on it. “It means to me that he is trying to stand alone. But it always ends in a fall. But I think he will go to another training camp in South Africa,” said Mäki. He is going to the African heat in two weeks and will be there until almost Christmas. He had to adjust his preparations accordingly. “I’ve already bought most of the gifts. I didn’t mean to stress people out, but I already have them,” she smiled.
