The XR Experience Center, located in Seoul National University’s Central Library, is a space composed of an experience zone where you can directly use Meta Quest 2 and a laboratory for app development. It will be used for various purposes such as metaverse research by Seoul National University students, faculty, and researchers, and VR classes and experiences.

Starting with the announcement of the establishment of ‘XR Hub Korea’, a metaverse research platform, with Seoul National University in June, Meta has been working closely to find a comprehensive response strategy for the coming metaverse era and to research various policy tasks. The opening of the XR Experience Center is designed to support the cultivation of talents who will lead the future XR market through rich experiences and utilization, and to be used as an XR policy research network.

At the opening ceremony, Meta, the head of the Central Library of Seoul National University, professors from related departments, and members of the Metaverse Society participated, and introduced the center and announced plans for its future use. In addition, we had time to demonstrate VR experience contents directly produced by ‘X-Real’, a metaverse society based at Seoul National University consisting of about 100 university students.

We will continue to work together with experts to think about the responsible and right direction of XR technology to lead the future metaverse industry, and to support the development of innovative technologies.”

Deok-Jin Jang, director of the Seoul National University Central Library, said, “It is meaningful to provide a space where students can directly experience and develop VR technology. It will be an opportunity to promote research on the three key challenges of development.”

Meanwhile, as the first activity of XR Hub Korea, Meta announced the ‘AR/VR Innovation Contest’ with Seoul National University and is recruiting applicants. This contest, which can be applied by faculty and staff, graduate research students and startups in the Asia-Pacific region, and individuals belonging to scale-up, is awarded a prize of 50,000 dollars (about 65 million won) for the development of the proposed solution.
