Mercedes eActros LongHaul Concept announced for September

The Tesla tractor has not yet been announced for production, but the competition is not sleeping. Thus, Mercedes-Benz Trucks announced plans to introduce the eActros LongHaul concept in September.

The fully electric 40-ton tractor promises to be elegant and environmentally friendly. The drawings and the first photos do not reveal much, but we can see LED lighting and a massive three-pointed star.

The first prototypes have already been tested, and the first pre-production copies will be delivered to customers next year for testing in real conditions. If all goes well, serial production will begin in 2024.

Although the company is only announcing a few details at the moment, they have revealed that eActros LongHaul will have a lithium-iron-phosphate battery that provides a range of about 500 km on a single charge.

Moreover, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has revealed that the model will have the option of “megawatt” charging, which will allow the battery to recharge with 20-80% in a “much shorter” time of 30 minutes.

Charging time should not be a problem because long-distance transport in operational practices of the transporter does not require a range of more than 500 km, and European Union regulations require truck drivers to use a minimum break of 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving.

Thanks to the aforementioned fast charging technology, the eActros LongHaul can be recharged quickly while drivers are resting.
