Mercedes-Benz Sprinter adapted diesel 2.0 to all versions – DRIVE

The manufacturer has introduced on Sprinter a bunch of diesel 2.0 and a nine-speed “automatic” 9G-Tronic on rear-wheel drive versions. Previously, such a box relied only on front-wheel drive modifications, while rear-wheel drive ones were content with a seven-range one. The six-speed “mechanics” have been preserved.

Model Mercedes-Benz Sprinter the third generation was launched in 2018 with a 2.1 OM 651 diesel in several versions of forcing (114-177 forces). However, at the end of 2020, a gradual transition of the van to a more modern diesel engine was launched. 2.0 OM 654 (as already done with Vito a year ago). Only this unit could be obtained in the Sprinter Panel Van and Chassis Cab versions with rear-wheel drive. Poor choice. Now the company has announced: from the fall of 2021, the OM 654 will appear on all Sprinters, cargo and passenger, Tourer and Traction Head variants (cab for subsequent reshaping), with both front and rear and all-wheel drive.

The 2.0 engine, adapted to the Euro VI-E and Euro 6d standards, will bring fuel savings to the entire Sprinter family, plus a reduction in noise and vibration levels compared to machines equipped with a 2.1 diesel engine.

The two-liter diesel engine on the Sprinter will be available in four boosts: 114, 150, 170 and 190 “horses”. The company also recalled that from 2020 in the range there is a fully electric version of the van – Mercedes-Benz eSprinter (85 kW, 116 HP, 295 N • m, total battery capacity 41 or 55 kW • h, power reserve 120 or 168 km). She will change in 2023 generation on a new platform Electric Versatility Platform.
